Hometown Pharmacy opened in Sun Prairie in 2014. There was a need for personal pharmacy service here, and Hometown wanted to offer it. In a market dominated by chains we knew people needed an alternative. They needed a choice. They needed a pharmacy that would take their time to help them.

Hometown Pharmacy in Sun Prairie is where our Compounding Lab is housed. We compound patient medications and send them out across the state. Contact us today to learn more about compounded prescription alternatives, how they can save you money, and if they may work for you!

Picture of Pharacist

I graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, School of Pharmacy in 2001 with a doctorate degree in pharmacy. I have lived in Wisconsin my entire life. I grew up in Middleton, went to college at UW-Madison, and have live in Sun Prairie for the past 7 years. My desire to be a pharmacist is rooted in my interest in chemistry and mechanics. I like to know how things “work” and pharmacy is a great blend of personal interaction and science.

I have practiced retail pharmacy since graduating and have been with the Hometown pharmacy group since 2003. Working in an independent pharmacy has afforded me the opportunity to get to know my patients and explore the many facets of patient needs. Over the years I have helped patients not only with drug information but supplementation consults, medication reviews, medical equipment, therapy decisions, medication organization, vaccination administration, health checks including blood pressure, cholesterol and bone density screening, finances, insurance billing, medication disposal, medicare consultation, travel needs, and most important to me, custom medication compounding. This experience allows me to help each patient differently, as an individual, and helps find solutions to problems.

Medication compounding has been my special interest since entering pharmacy practice. Pharmacy compounding is the art and science of preparing personalized medications for patients. Compounded medications are “made from scratch” – individual ingredients are mixed together in the exact strength and dosage form required by the patient. This method allows the compounding pharmacist to work with the patient and the prescriber to customize a medication to meet the patient’s specific needs. Few true compounding pharmacies exist in Wisconsin and not all compounders are the same. Many pharmacies will claim they compound, but only a handful have the equipment, knowledge and experience like we have to make an appropriate product. I have fixed numerous compounds from other “compounding” pharmacies over the years and will continue to do so as patients unknowingly use inappropriate sources for their compounded products.
Compounding has benefits many patients may not even realize. Sometimes a large pharmaceutical manufacturer discontinues a medication. Often this happens because not enough patients are taking the drug, so it is unprofitable to keep mass-producing it. But what about the patients who still need that drug? Hundreds or even thousands of patients still may need that medication. A compounding pharmacist can re-create that medication by compounding it, so even if only one person in the world still needs that medication, they can have it thanks to compounding!

Compounding also benefits those that may be allergic to or intolerant to certain ingredients, dislike a favor, need a different dosage form (capsule, topical, liquid, suppository, etc…), or just need a different strength or combination of medications. What ever you make need, we make it.

In getting to know my patients they discover that I have many other interests beyond pharmacy. I enjoy anything involving my family and keep busy with running, biking, camping, and hunting. I like to keep busy, so you will often find me planning a race, trip or family event.
